At Sidedoor we have just produced our first playing card game, a fun studio project that began with an idea from our in house game genius Glen Pilmore. The game titled ‘The Golden Egg’ is an Easter card game designed, handmade and packaged by the bright sparks in our studio. It is only available in a limited edition run of 130 and features the winning Golden Egg design by Tim Butterworth from the student design competition we ran earlier this year.

It was a great project to put together, something a little out of the ordinary for us to work on and a bit of fun for everyone to play with family or friends at anytime of the year. We are thrilled with the finished product.

Winning entry Tim Butterworth of Templestowe College, Age 13

Well done to Tim Butterworth of Templestowe College, the winner of the Golden Egg Student Design Competition! Tim’s entry really impressed us with his use of different textures, lighting and mediums to create his Golden Egg design.

Tim wins the cash prize of $200 and will now have his design immortalised in The Golden Egg card game. Great work Tim, it’s fantastic to see this level of creativity and we look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Hey Everyone, my name is Ebony Martin and I am a year 10 student at Loyola College. This week I had the pleasure of doing Work Experience with the lovely people at Sidedoor. Let me start off by saying that work is completely different to High School! I have never done anything like this before and hopefully when I finish year 12 and begin my career that it is as fun and challenging as this one. The people at Sidedoor and the people across the room and out the back are so friendly and helpful, before I started work experience I really thought the they were going to be boring and grumpy business people, but boy was I wrong! who would of thought I was going to make new friends at work experience! It was such an enjoyment to experience the graphic design industry and get a feel for what this field of work is actually like.
During the time I was here I had the pleasure of watching the ‘design masterminds’ Adinda, Wendy and Jess at work, I observed the different types of processes they undertake to achieve the beautiful final products that you see on the site and maybe even on the shelves at Bunnings!

My week here at Sidedoor has been fantastic and I really hope that I can one day pursue a career along the lines of this company or maybe even start my own!

In conclusion I’d like to thank each and every person who helped me during my time at work experience. I had such a fun, interesting and satisfying week and was very impressed with the way the company works! Last but not least I’d like to thank ‘The Big Kahuna’ – Steve Briffa, also known as ‘The Boss’ for allowing me to spend the whole week here, it has been such an enjoyment and hopefully I’ll see you round! thank you all again, I’ve had a blast!

The evening began with lots of tasty snacks and drinks and progressed into a lolly free-for-all as guests indulged in some goodies from our Sweet Treats lolly bar. Whilst tunes from our resident DJ, Adinda kept us entertained. An exciting event was our door prize giveaway. Instead of the usual “business cards in a bowl”, we decided to give out keys to our guests, the winning key unlocking the padlock and revealing the prize. One by one each guest tried their luck, but our eventual winner was Pat – Congrats to Pat for winning the camera!

As the evening drew to an end, we gave our guests some take away packs of goodies that we put together, containing some Sidedoor designed greeting cards and interactive notepads. These were a hit, though I think guests were more interested in the lollies from Sweet Treats!

A special thanks has to go out to Tony for taking some snaps of the evening and to Steven, “the Big Kahuna” for organising the catering, drinks and our door prize for the evening. And last but not least, thanks to all of our guests for attending, we hope you had as good an evening as we did!

We are opening the doors to our studio this evening and hosting an official launch for sidedoor. Preparations are in order, the lolly bar is stocked, goody bags are ready, drinks are on ice and the prize is ready to be unlocked. We’re looking forward to catching up with some lovely people!
